INFORMATION

Bargaining for a new Public Sector Enterprise Agreement has been going on for about six months now..

The feedback and input of members working in the Public Sector in preparing our Log of Claims was invaluable and has formed the basis of a strong and detailed claim.

Put together through a series of surveys and member meetings, the Log of Claims picks up the key issues and concerns of members, and in particular the key issues to be addressed through bargaining.

Pay Rise:
A number of people have asked recently if we’re pursuing a pay increase in the same range as that delivered to nurses.

The answer is a resounding YES.

Our Union is fighting hard for real wage increases, and we will not be accepting any offer that does not address the ongoing cost of living crisis and its impact on our members’ quality of life and capacity to cover living expenses.

To be clear, we are aiming for a pay outcome consistent with the nurses.

In the claim, there are two significant elements to the pay rise:

  • an uplift in line with our Gender Equity case conducted in the Fair Work Commission. There is still some work to be done in achieving the final outcome of this case, but we are looking at an outcome in the same range as the nurses achieved in their case.  A strong result from this, in conjunction with a separate annual pay rise could get us to around the same amount.
  • The claim for annual pay rises. The claim for an increase each year is an additional 5%.

Improved Allowances:
Improvements to shift arrangements, higher qualifications allowances and payments for working away from your usual base all figure.

Properly funded Professional Development:
We all know what a mess it has been claiming your rights to reimbursement for Professional Development expenses. Moving forward, we’re claiming a set amount for all workers covered by the Agreement that should enable you to attend a national conference each year.

Improvements to Leave:
There are a number of claims in this space – more flexible personal leave, better long service leave rates for part timers, more paid parental leave and access to reproductive health leave just to name a few.

Profession based Claims:
There are a lot of items in the claim that are designed to address specific issues for professions – whether that is your classification structure and restrictions on advancement, access to clinical supervision and education or additional staffing, there’s a bunch of things in there

Better Workplaces:
There are claims to tighten the workload provisions, crack down on the use of fixed-term employment, and better recognition of skills and experiences you might bring from elsewhere.

Bargaining for Better

We’re pushing hard at the negotiating table, but what happens in the workplace is just as important..

To maximise our voice and collective strength in this year’s bargaining, there are number of things that you can do to help:

  • Print and share the log of claims in your workplace
  • Do you and your Union colleagues have union t-shirts yet? If not, contact us about receiving Union t-shirts for your workplace and we’ll send some out.
  • Does your workplace have a Union Delegate?
    • Delegates are the backbone of our Union
    • If your workplace doesn’t have a Delegate, and you’re interested please contact us
    • We have training running right now so it’s the perfect time to become a delegate
    • There are 5 days paid Union training leave in the Agreement

We will continue with member meetings to discuss the issues arising from bargaining, which will give us invaluable insight. Through these meetings we can keep you and your colleagues informed about the progress of negotiations, areas causing issues and how we will work through those claims that we are not going to back down from.
