We think everyone should join their union, but perhaps you’ve wondered what you actually get from being a member. Here’s what MSAV membership actually gives you, and what it costs.
What you get as a member
Someone in your corner at work. If something’s not right, whether it’s a pay issue or a change to your role, you’ve got support to sort it out rather than facing it alone.
A collective voice on the issues that matter to your profession. Workload, scope creep, and the pressure to do more without more support are things our members raise often. Being part of a union means these concerns get raised together, not one person at a time. We’re harder to ignore when we all stand together.
A safer workplace. The union works with delegates, health and safety reps, and employers to help make sure workplaces meet the standard they should.
Practical help when you need it. Membership includes access to industrial support for WorkCover claims, unfair dismissal, disciplinary matters, and back pay disputes.
Everyday savings. Through our partnerships with ACTU Member Benefits, Slater and Gordon Legal and Union Shopper, members can access discounts across banking, insurance, travel, cars, and more.
A say in how the union operates. Members elect the union’s leaders and help shape the priorities it advocates for, including what’s pushed for at the bargaining table.
On top of this, membership includes access to Professional Indemnity Insurance, industrial advice and representation, and legal services. And because membership fees are tax deductible, the real cost is often lower than it looks.
