FYI: Scrap the Cap Campaign
Have you heard about the government’s plan to cap annual tax deductions for self-education expenses at $2000? The government expects to save $514.3 million over the next four years by making it less attractive and more expensive for workers, including MSAV, AHP and VPA members, to pursue professional development opportunities.
However, we are of the view that where professional development is mandatory for the maintenance of registration – as is the case for pharmacists and psychologists – those professional development expenses should remain fully tax deductible. The same is likely to be the case for dietitians in relation to maintaining ‘Accredited Practising Dietitian’ status. We will seek professional advice and keep you informed.
