Professor Michael Kyrios is an academic clinical psychologist who holds the Chair in Psychology in the Faculty of Life and Social Sciences, Swinburne University of Technology where he is Director of the Brain & Psychological Sciences Research Centre (BPsyC). Prof. Kyrios specialises in the study of depression, anxiety disorders (social anxiety, panic, and generalised anxiety disorders), and obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, compulsive hoarding, compulsive buying, problem gambling, body dysmorphic disorder, trichotillomania, etc.), and chronic medical illnesses. He is interested in evidence based conceptualisations of psychological dysfunction as well as the development of evidence based treatments for these disorders.
Prof. Kyrios has authored many international publications, been involved in numerous research grants as a chief investigator and serves as an editor for a number of national and international journals. He has an international profile in the area of hoarding and is one of Australia’s leading academics making regular media contributions and fulfilling extensive training commitments on the treatment of hoarding in conjunction with his team.
