Update on Gender Undervaluation
We are continuing to work hard on the gender undervaluation case before the Fair Work Commission to deliver substantial increases to minimum rates of pay for health professionals, on the basis of undervaluation of their skills and qualifications due to gendered bias.
Members will have heard recent news about major pay rises for nurses, early childhood educators and various other professions for similar gender-based reasons. Correcting this injustice is long overdue, and we are proud to be playing a significant role in fighting for a significant increase to the Modern Award rates of pay.
A number of our members have put their hands up to be a part of this case and they are helping to inform our work. In some cases, these members are preparing to give evidence to the Fair Work Commission.
We cannot thank or congratulate these members enough for their work so far. It takes great strength to be prepared to stand up and be part of the work around such a significant piece of work that will deliver substantial outcomes for so many people, if we are successful.
We will keep members informed of the progress of this case, and if there are any additional opportunities to contribute to this significant piece of work.
